Success, as I see it, is a result, not a goal.
If at first you don't succeed, you must be doing something wrong.

IC
Name: Adam Levithan
Age/DOB: 24/ March 22, 1984
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight

Physical Description: Adam is of average height and thin, not built to threaten. His lithe frame is only made less intimidating when coupled with his young-looking face. Though going on twenty-five, Adam can pass fairly easily for eighteen. He has somewhat angular features, large almond-shaped brown eyes, and medium brown hair which he always keeps short and neat.

Personality: Adam is probably one of the most determined people you could ever meet. Since he knew the difference between success and fail, he knew he could never settle for the latter. “It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game” always seemed like the most ridiculous adage to him. Why waste your time playing if you’re going to walk away empty handed? No matter what he’s doing, Adam is in it to win it. First and foremost on his list of conquests is his career. Being hired by the New York Times fresh out of college is not enough for Adam; he wants to be a star reporter, and he’s not going to rest until he’s accomplished it. No matter what it takes.

In addition to competitive and determined, Adam is quick-witted, sharp, and powerfully observant. All qualities that come in handy when it comes to his career. And his career always comes first. It’s not that he won’t have meaningful relationships or find life outside of his job. It’s just that he is honestly happier and more alive when he’s typing up a news story than he ever has been with a girlfriend or loved one. When he does form a connection, though, like everything else he does, it’s steadfast.

Unfortunately, Adam’s set-in-stone ways don’t only apply to his job. Like so many from conservative American families, Adam was brought up with certain beliefs and certain morals. He was never given any reason to question these ideas or reconsider them, and now they are as much a part of him as his journalism. Homosexuality is unnatural and wrong. To Adam, this is unquestionable truth, and so far, nothing has ever happened to make him think twice on the matter.

History: On March 22, 1983, Adam Levithan was born in Brooklyn, New York. For five years, he was an only child, and then his little sister Sara came along. The family was never rich, and though they never starved or lived on the streets, Adam knew how it felt to never be able to go out on the weekends, to never buy clothes that weren’t already worn by someone else, and to always be left wanting more. It was at a young age that Adam made the decision that would drive him for the rest of his life: one day, he would be able to provide himself with the life he’d always lacked. No matter what it took.

This carried through his schooling, where he brought home straight A’s every marking period from 3rd grade on. He never missed a day of school. It wasn’t that he was some sort of genius, or even that he particularly enjoyed learning or doing work. It was just something he had to do, because otherwise, he’d fail. And that would not be okay.

After high school, where he earned the title valedictorian, he went on to study journalism at Columbia University. Despite knowing he’d be paying off loans until he was forty-five (a thought which only further fueled the need for a successful career), everything was going exactly according to the plan he’d always had. His academic success continued through college, and before he’d even graduated, he’d been offered a reporting position with the New York Times.

It was during his third year working for the Times that the new hot, controversial topic swept the nation. The new government had assured the nation that it would see to the return to traditional family values and safe, upstanding morals. Homosexuality was number one on the agenda. The Pride Academies were opened, and the pills and surgeries began. Everywhere, citizens were expressing their opinions about the new policies. An overwhelming majority agreed fully with what was being done in their country.

Which is why, when rumors started to circulate that the Pride Academies were taking matters into their own hands and not necessarily following the guidelines the government had set for them, the New York Times jumped at the chance to expose them one way or the other.

Due to his fairly young appearance and promising talent, Adam was offered the assignment he’d been waiting for. He was to enroll at Goldfinch Academy as a student and report on every interesting detail he could, digging up whatever dirt possible on the school. When he had enough material, he would write the news story that would not only set his career for life, but possibly change everything for those suffering from unnatural sexuality preferences all over the country.

Despite his negative view of the condition afflicting the Pride Academy students, taking the Goldfinch assignment was an easy choice. After all, his career always comes first. This story could mean his big break, and no way in hell will he let his distaste for watching homos make out destroy that for him.
